Oct 30: Greek Wine from Antiquity to Today

Join us October 30th, 2023, at 7:30pm, to rediscover Greek wine, ancient and modern!

From Homer's description of the "wine dark sea" to the fame or notoriety of retsina today, Greek wine has been famous for millennia.

Dr. Hector Williams will present a brief history of Greek wine in antiquity: he has worked for 40 years on Lesbos, whose wine was among the most famous in Greece. Especially associated with the god Dionysos and his rascally satyr followers wine was an essential element of Greek life. The presentation will conclude with a short video on contemporary varietals of indigenous Greek wines, some of which are available in Canada.

We’ll be gathering at 7:30pm at 4500 Arbutus Street in the Upper Hall. Light refreshments should be available as well. We hope to see you there!
