Feb 26: Shakespeare and the Greeks

Join us February 26, 2024, at 7:30pm, to explore the influence of the Greeks on Shakespeare and early modern England

Ben Jonson famously wrote that Shakespeare had ‘small Latin and less Greek’. This lecture will provide context for that comment, exploring Shakespeare’s engagement with ancient Greece, while also looking at the broader cultural picture of the place of the Greeks in early modern England.

Dr. Hallie Marshall

Dr. Hallie Marshall specializes in dramatic literature and theatre history, with a particular focus on ancient Greek theatre and its reception (reuse) in later periods.

We’ll be gathering at 7:30pm at 4500 Arbutus Street in the Upper Hall. Light refreshments should be available as well. We hope to see you there!

A Zoom livestream may be available, contingent on wireless access: email info@pharosvancouver.com for further information.
